To the delight of the Monash Fairy Tale Salon, renowned fairy tale scholar Marina Warner will be leaving British shores to speak at the Melbourne Writers Festival this September! Warner has published extensively on fairy tales over the years and is basically a rock star in the realm of fairy tale academia.
One of her most famous books is From the Beast to the Blonde: Fairy Tales and Their Tellers. In September she will actually be talking about her latest book, Stranger Magic: Charmed States and the Arabian Nights, which we have looked at in several meetings this year.
For me as a newer scholar completing my PhD on fairy tales, Warner’s writing has been an absolute inspiration. (I just hope I don’t faint when I see her in person.)
So what does this mean for the Monash Fairy Tale Salon? Excursion time! We will be off to see Marina on the 1st of September and we will be sure to report back with details.
